SO I finally get all the software installed, get my usb to serial converter cable, and start to program the chip and suddenly the thing dies and I cannot figure out how to get it to come back on. I like the logo chip software as it looks very familiar to me. However, the chip is somewhat frustrating.

In and effort to more fully appreciate the artistic side of this class, I decided to visit Shift Space for the first time. At first glance, I saw very little that appealed to me. The first exhibit was a series of pictures that, although pretty, did not achieve the goal that the artist had set with it’s title. She had taken pictures of farm objects and called it “modern life.” Admittedly though, the gallery became more interesting as I walked along. The next exhibit was a series of panoramic pictures that if put together would have made a complete 360-degree picture in the middle of a field. By far though, the most interesting exhibit to me was a set of stacked tv’s that had some old movies switching throughout them. It appeared to be a perfectly random set of shows that were in black and white. At times the tv’s became much louder allowing the viewer to understand what the artist wanted to portray. In all, I feel that this exhibition was quite interesting and entertaining. I believe it to be of much benefit to anyone who views it.

I have decided that I would be best fit on Ann’s group and making a garden. Details to come…

I like the way that class has been going the last couple of days. I think the only way for artists and engineers to get to know anything about each other is to have large group discussions in which we can celebrate our differences and enlighten ourselves.
Also, I have gotten my logo chip set up and now am waiting for the software I need to program it to do something. I must admit I am excited about getting to use the bread board and stuff. I haven’t got to do anything so hands on since my freshman year.
I am thinking about giving up on my idea and hoping with my fingers crossed that Danielle posts her idea about maneuvering through a room as I am much more excited about working on that project than my own.

After being at class for the last couple of days, I have concluded that my whole way of thinking about this project has been wrong. I have wanted to create something that was useful for accomplishing something. I don’t think I could have been more wrong. Consequently, I am still thinking about an idea but at least I have a better idea about what to thinki about.

I spent a good deal of time looking at these Logo chips online last evening and I was quite impressed with how much they can do given how much they cost. Now, if I could only come up with a SUPERB idea that rocks my socks off I would be set!

well…we are about 3 weeks into the class and I as well as much of the class am beginning to think that we are going to have to change some things in order for the final project to be plausible. I would like to see 3 bigger projects of about 4-6 people each that way we might be able to get things done by shift-space(that would be good!).
